Neo Behaviorism
(Facilitating Learning - A Metacognitive Process, Lucas & Corpuz)
Bandura
From the module on Neo-behaviorism: Tolman and Bandura, I learned that Tolman’s purposive behaviorism is often seen as the link between behaviorism and cognitive theory.
Learning is a cognitive process and involves in forming beliefs and obtaining knowledge about the environment and then revealing that knowledge through purposeful and goal-directed behavior.
Sign theory state that “an organism learns by pursuing signs to a goal, i.e., learning is acquired through meaningful behavior” (Edward Tolman, cited by Lucas & Corpuz, 2007, p. 100).
I learned also that Albert Bandura’s social learning theory focuses on the learning within social context which considers that people learn from one another, including such concepts as observational learning, imitation and modeling.
