The New Curriculum Necessary to the Philippines’ Education

By: G-one T. Paisones

Curriculum design enables the teacher in creating his/her objectives, strategies and assessments in handling classroom situation for better learning environment. Knowing about curriculum design empowers the teachers to develop and adapt lessons to meet the needs of the learners to better serve the public.

In my observation in the classroom, I have notice that motivation will serve as the starting sparks that leads the learners’ to be ready and attainable in the class discussion but I have also encountered many teachers who follow prepared texts and lesson plans which results in the inability to learn the desire knowledge.

The teacher-centered type of curriculum is the traditional method of educational curriculum in which the subject matter is the center of the education process. Due to the lack of knowledge obtained by the learners in this type of curriculum – gives the birth of learner-centered type of curriculum in which it emphasize in the needs and interest of the learners with respect to the learners intelligence. Through this kind of curriculum rises the idealism that learning is acquired only through self-activity of the learners.

Another derivation of learner-centered curriculum is the problem centered curriculum. Problem-centered type of curriculum deals with the actual social problems surrounded by the learners in their political-ecosystem.

From this perspective, I would like to make an analytical research paper and theses which urging and advising the Philippine government to the mediate replacement and/or addition in the curriculum the New Subjects which tackled primarily in the issue of graft and corruption in the local area up to the nation as a whole.

Current studies in the issue of corruption; leads to the teaching of the law with regards to corruption, community involvement of the students and the essential and realistic knowledge of corruption and the method of stopping it.

This new curriculum design answered the challenge of President Benigno Aquino III that “dito na tayo sa daan ng pagbabago” because through implementing this curriculum, the learners will have the knowledge of the law regarding graft and corruption; have to study the history of the corrupt officials and their strategies of corruption; and the awareness as patriot citizen of the Philippines that is watchful to the corrupt practices in his/her environment.

Here are the outlines of subject matter of the new curriculum:

· History of Graft and Corruption

· People involve in Graft and Corruption

· Methods and Strategies of Graft and Corruption

· The Marcos Regime

· The Aquino Legacy

· The Estrada Government

· The Arroyo Government

· The Philippine Law of Graft and Corruption

· Community involvement in the Government Projects

This new curriculum is called Current studies in our Society:
